The use of LSR reverse current cut-offs continues to increase in importance

The used of liquide silicone rubber (LSR) for the production of elastic parts in injection moulding processes for medical and automotive engineering, micro parts, and hard and soft composite materials is becoming invreasingly widespread.

The excellent resistance to heat, cold and ageing and the fact that ist a good electrical insulator, is physiologically harmless, and that its production does not require reconditioning or produce waste open up a wealth of possile uses.

To process LSR, a special procedure for the injection moulding of liqiud two-component silcone rubbers has been developed, also known as LIM (liquid injection moulding). This involves pumping two components (A and B) into the injection cylinder using multi-component dosage and mixing equipment. The material in the outer screw area is transported into the front screw area by rotational screw movement and therfore the mixing (dynamic) of the materials is improved. A special LSR reverse current cut-off prevents a reverse flow of the low viscosity mixture from the outer screw area to the front screw area. The advantage in comparison to a single-component system lies in the significantly lower cycle time.
